WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SALOMON

Salomon has been around for almost sixty years now (founded in 1947) and began in the winter sports industry. No, you're not mistaken, Salomon S-Core surfboards are made by the same world-famous company whose skis and snowboards can be found dominating ski resorts the world over. Since its inception, Annecy, France-based Salomon has expanded beyond winter sports, developing their own line of apparel, footwear and in-line skates. They've acquired companies like golf giant Taylor Made, French cycle accessory leader Mavic and Portland, Oregon based snowboard and apparel company Bonfire Inc. Salomon even invented that ridiculously popular "mini ski" you see people zipping all over the mountains with called the Snowblade. And, most important to us, Salomon dove into the surf world in 2002 with their invention of S-Core technology.

WHAT IS S-CORE TECHNOLOGY?

Salomon has taken a unique approach to alternative surfboard research and design. They've embraced the flexi and ultra-light carbon-fiber technology that adds that new feel to surfing, yet they haven't disregarded the number one reason as to why surfers have such a hard time moving beyond the traditional surfboard: shapeable foam. The S-Core blank is related to Aviso's design principles in that it is a hollow carbon fiber shell, but Salomon has added three high-density foam stringers and a shapeable coating of foam around the carbon fiber shell. Like a Tuflite blank, the S-Core blank is poured in a high-tolerance mold so that when it's time for the shaper to finish off the board, there is not much shaping left to do other than to put in their personal rail and concave touches. The shaped S-Core board is then sent off to the glasser just like a traditional board, where it is laminated with an epoxy/fiberglass coat.

WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE A SALOMON S-CORE IN YOUR QUIVER?

Like an Aviso, the S-Core can be fine-tuned to fit your surfing needs and its carbon-fiber construction allows the board to retain energy and create "pop" through turns. Stiffness, compression and torque can all be manipulated by the shaper and since the S-Core blank is super high-tolerance like a Surftech and Aviso, there is no need to worry about inconsistencies in the initial shape. And it's epoxy coat is durable and less-susceptible to dinging.

Plus, if you buy an S-Core, you can set it next to your Salomon snowboard and your Salomon in-line skates and your Salomon underwear and your Salomon hair gel and feel like you're sponsored.
